Mankessim Chiefs deplore news conference by youth leader

Mankessim (C/R), Aug 25, GNA - The Mankessim Traditional Council has condemned a news conference organised by one Nasil Adam who described himself as a youth leader and three Assembly Members of the town.

The Chiefs said the action of Nasil Adam and the three Assembly Members after the National House of Chiefs had withdrawn the Gazette of five sub chiefs showed that they had a hidden agenda. The Council pointed out that as far as it was concerned there was only one Youth Association in the town whose leader was not called by that name.

In a statement signed by Nana Kwaa Annan VIII, Kyidomhene and Acting President of the Traditional Council, it said that members of the council believed that some detractors bent on inciting the people to create confusion engineered the conference.

They stated that there was no evidence of disturbances between any factions and said, "We can attest to the fact that there has never been any violence or any move by any group of people to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the town".

The said, "Mankessim is a popular market centre where people from far and near come to do business and it is our duty to ensure their safety, a duty, which we will never shirk," the Chiefs stated, adding that, they had lodged a complain with the police to investigate the matter and bring to book those found culpable.

The chiefs considered the ultimatum given by Adam and the three assembly members to the government to resolve chieftaincy issues in the town within three months or advise themselves, as an affront to it and the judiciary.
