Manso-Nkwata (Ash), Oct. 9, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Manso-Nkwata in the Amansie West District, have made a plea for the supply of a vehicle to the District Police Hers adquartefor effective policing.
They said the lack of a reliable means of transport for the police in the area is a disincentive to the satisfactory operation of police personnel.
The district boasts of only one aged, rickety police Land Rover, which often breaks down and cannot travel long distances. The people expressed the sentiment when the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, paid a working visit to the area. He was there to acquaint himself with the progress the UN Millennium Villages Project is bringing to the lives of the 30 beneficiary communities in the area.
The Village Project is an integrated community-level development strategy to end extreme poverty. It works directly with communities, non-governmental organizations and national governments. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwadwo Asante, District Police Commander, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency, that the absence of a road worthy vehicle was indeed a major set-back.
He said his men are often forced to rely on public transport and motor bikes to carry out their official duties. 0
