Odumase Krobo (E/R), March 5, GNA - The European Union has over a period of six years sunk about 25 million dollars into the Ghanaian economy, supporting small scale projects in critical areas, such as education, sanitation and health to uplift the quality of life of the underprivileged.
Mr Eric Christensen, an official of the European Union Delegation in Ghana said the EU was poised to raise its spending on such projects, because of the unflinching commitment by the Government to the schemes and the overarching zeal shown by the people. Mr Christensen, who was speaking at the inauguration of five micro projects sponsored by the EU at Odumase Krobo on Friday, also disclosed that all the 16 districts in the Eastern Region would now benefit from EU sponsored projects.
The sponsored projects included a three-classroom block for the Akro JSS at Odumase Krobo, a Rural Clinic at Kodjonya, a 10-seater toilet facility for the Akuse town, teachers quarters at Asesewa and a six-unit primary school project also at Odumase Krobo. The European Union delegation offered 385 million cedis to the project, while the Manya Krobo District Assembly contributed 400 million cedis with the other expenditures coming from the people in the form of communal labour.
Mr Christensen said the EU stand ready to partner the people of Ghana in their quest for development and will find her an enduring partner, as the two worked in fruitful partnership in helping solve mankind's problem. Mr David Asare Sackitey, Manya Krobo District Chief Executive, said since human resource development remained a critical concern for the nation, Government through its agencies would continue to partner organizations such as the EU to find solutions to the needs of the people.
He commended the EU for its support for the district in its development drive that led to the successful execution of the five projects and appealed to the EU to lend its support to 15 others that have been started by the assembly.
The DCE appealed to parents to instil moral values in their children, as well as their welfare to ensure that they become responsible citizens for the state and justify the huge investment being made by the government in promoting quality education. Mr Sackitey also spoke against the failure of some parents to properly maintain their children at school, while at the same time spend huge some of money on transitory things that do not lead to any enduring development.
The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sackitey II, advised his people to wholeheartedly support such projects so as to brig relief to the underprivileged and underserved in their society.
