Marine Police Centres to be established

Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP), on today announced plans by the Police Administration to establish Marine Police centres in some parts of the country.

He made the announcement during a visit to the Marine Police Academy at Aiyinase to inspect the progress of work on the rehabilitation and development of facilities at the academy.

Mr. Alhassan said areas being considered for the establishment of the centres included Jewi Wharf and Elubo.

He said the Marine Academy would be developed in phases into a centre of excellence to train marine police personnel of countries in West Africa.

Mr. Alhassan said training at the academy is now taking place in various locations in the country because of the rehabilitation works.

He said the academy will constantly help to update the skills of personnel of the Marine Unit to enable them meet emerging challenges.

Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, Commissioner of Police (COP), said the construction of the 1 .2 million United States dollar classrooms and administration building of the academy, sponsored by the United States government is near complete.

He said the Police Administration with support from friends of the Police, are rehabilitating other facilities at the academy.
