Atebubu (B/A), Nov 17, GNA - Revenue collection at the Atebubu market has shot up from 12 million cedis to 30 million cedis a month in the past five months following the effectiveness of the market committee that was reconstituted in May by Mr Cassius Osei Poku, the District Chief Executive.

The committee has Mr Amankwaa Kokuro, assemblyman for Kokrompe, as its chairman with Mr Samuel Nii Boi as the accountant.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Amankwaa said the committee took prudent measures including the retrieval of unoccupied stores, prosecution of tax defaulters and the waiving of rent advances to ensure sanity in the management of the market.

He said the committee supervised and monitored strictly revenue collection at the market to ensure that money collected did not get into private pockets.

Mr Amankwaa said the committee had also improved sanitation and security at the market to facilitate trading activities thereby sustaining revenue mobilisation and advised traders to demand receipts from revenue collectors after making payments.

He appealed to middlemen and loaders who operate at the market to be farmer-friendly to encourage them to patronise the market.
