Cecilia Asaga, a National Executive Member (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged women across the country to support her party and John Mahama in the upcoming elections.

She emphasized the pivotal role of women in national development and urged them to rally behind the NDC's presidential candidate John Mahama and their agenda for economic empowerment.

She highlighted the party's achievements in implementing key policies such as the National Health Insurance Scheme, Progressively Free SHS, rural electrification, and the expansion of critical infrastructure in education, roads, and healthcare.

“Way back in 1999 the Rawlings administration of which John Mahama was Minister of Communications implemented the national health insurance which had earlier being piloted by the Catholic Dioceses of Damongo,” Cecilia Asaga said.

“Incidentally the West Gonja district of which Damongo and Bole were originally part of was the constituency John Mahama represented in parliament during the piloting of this national health insurance we are talking about here.”

Asaga stated this during a campaign outreach programme in the Wa West Constituency of the Upper West Region, adding that “around the same time a separate scheme developed in the Dodowa district of Accra.”

Her tour covered the 11 constituencies in the Upper West region, with more destinations planned after the national campaign formally kicks off on Saturday, July 27.

The outreach was aimed at mobilizing eligible voters and addressing their concerns directly.

She underscored the importance of voting for the NDC to ensure the continuity of these beneficial policies and the introduction of new initiatives aimed at further improving the lives of Ghanaians.

Speaking to the media, Asaga reaffirmed the NDC's commitment to women's empowerment, stating, “Marry the NDC for John Mahama to rescue us”.

She continued, “The NDC is committed to supporting women and ensuring their economic empowerment through the proposed Women Development Bank. Let’s work together to build a prosperous nation by campaigning and electing John Mahama as President”.

Madam Asaga also urged registered voters to vote massively for the NDC’s parliamentary candidates, including incumbent MPs Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo of Wa Central and Peter Lanchene Toobu of Wa West constituencies.

The two MPs later joined her in distributing sanitary pads to some of the participants.
