Maulvi bemoans proliferation of religious groups

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 28, GNA - Maulvi Yusuf Bin-Salih, Brong-Ahafo Regional Missionary in-charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, has bemoaned the increasing rate of immorality in the society despite the proliferation of religions.

He said churches and mosques continued to emerge in every part of the country, yet it seems men and women continued to fall prey to temptations at variance with the dictates of God's teachings. Maulvi Bin-Salih said this at the opening of a two-day Brong-Ahafo Regional Conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission at Techiman on Friday.

The Conference, 26th in the series is being attended by about 2,500 members drawn from nine-circuits in the region under the theme "Adherence to morality, a way to national prosperity". Maulvi Bin-Salih, denounced the rising trend of immorality and other negatives such as gambling and robbery, prostitution, disrespect for elders, improper dressing, murder and wanton behaviour some citizenry in the country.

Maulvi Bin-Salih expressed concern about superstitious beliefs among religious followers and asked Muslims to have faith in Allah as the Supreme Being.

He entreated Muslims and Christians to fight against wrongs in society by leading lives above reproach as found in the Quran and the Bible. Mr. Prince Yaw Donyinah, Municipal Chief Executive for Techiman, in a speech read for him by Mr. Yusif Abdul Karim, Techiman Municipal Officer of the Environmental Health Division, said if Ghana should see holistic development, then parents, teachers, religious bodies and other stakeholders must declare war on indiscipline and immorality in the society.

Mr. Donyinah appealed to members to set standards for good behaviour and character in the society, stressing the need for Moslems to respect and tolerate each other's views, as Islam is a religion of peace.

He acknowledged the contribution of the Ahmadiyya Mission in promoting education in the country.

Mr. Unas Owusu, Brong-Ahafo Regional President of the Mission who presided, reiterated the need for members of the Mission to patronize the National Health Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) introduced by the government for the better health care needs of the country. Mr. Owusu asked Ahmaddis to live by the tenets of the Quran to justify them as true Moslems.
