Mavis Opokua Akornor, the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region, has cut sod for the construction of a 3-unit classroom block with an office space for the Senchi Methodist Primary School.

According to her, the construction of this new facility signifies a commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning—a space where the students can thrive academically and personally.

It represents her dedication to investing in future generations, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to excel.

She extended her heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of the Asuogyaman District Assembly and her predecessor, Samuel Kwame Agyekum, for excelling in the District Performance Assessment Tool exercise, which led to the DACF-Responsiveness.

According to the DCE, the project will be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024, which implies that the project will commence and be completed without having to wait for funds.

The District Education Director, Augustine Adjoa Owusu, was overjoyed to be part of the sod-cutting ceremony.

She said the school has really suffered from a weak structure, which is very dangerous for accommodating learners.

"These little ones, together with their teachers, studied under the scorching sun, which is not conducive to teaching and learning. Due to the rain, pupils are combined in one classroom for multigrade teaching, which is not the normal practice for a good learning situation. And the worst of it all is that these same pupils compete with other learners under good conditions within the district and Ghana at large," she said.

She thanked the DCE and the district assembly for such a timely intervention.

"I must say that Hon. Mavis Akornor has proved that she is indeed a staunch educationist who can see from afar. This is a plus for projects within her tenure that these learners, together with the education directorate, see as remarkable and will forever remember her for," she stated.

Nana Gyan Oduro Dapaa II, Akormu Adorteng Hene for Senchi, expressed his gratitude to the government, especially the current DCE, for the intervention.

"It is unfortunate that the former DCE did nothing about it, but God willing, the current DCE, Hon. Mavis, started, and we thank God for that; she took a good step," the chief said.

According to him, they would help the contractor in any way he needed their support for the project to be completed on time.

He gave a strong warning to the youth that anyone found around the project or touching any material without the knowledge of the contractor would not be forgiven.

He appealed to the government to do something about the roads in the district, especially the main road from Senchi junction to the ferry landing site.

The assembly member was delighted with locating the school building in his jurisdiction and challenged parents to take their wards' education seriously.

He appealed to the government, NGOs, and private investors to come to Senchi to establish companies that would help reduce unemployment in the district.
