The Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, has officially broken ground for the construction of new sheds for plantain sellers at Agbogbloshie Market.

The new sheds, expected to accommodate 70 traders, aim to provide a safer and more organized space for the plantain sellers to conduct their business, as well as enhance the market environment and improve hygiene and working conditions for the sellers.

Speaking at the event, the mayor said the project underscores the Accra Metropolitan Assembly's (AMA) commitment to supporting local traders and fostering economic growth within the community.

"The construction of these new sheds marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to improve market facilities across Accra," she said, adding that the city authority is dedicated to creating a conducive environment for trading activities.

She urged the traders to maintain sanitation in the market by practicing good personal hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases.

She entreated the contractor to work at the speed of light to consolidate efforts to provide infrastructural development in the central business district (CBD).

The contractor for the project, Messrs Snavec Reg Co. Gh Ltd, expressed appreciation for being selected to complete the project, assuring the Mayor and all parties of its timely completion while maintaining quality standards.

"We are honoured to have been selected by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly for this important project. Our team at Snavec is committed to delivering high-quality construction for the new plantain sellers' sheds at Agbogbloshie. We understand the significance of this project for the local community and are dedicated to ensuring it meets all expectations," the contractor said.
