McCarthy Hill gets new chief

An Accra businessman, Nii Asharley Nkpa II, known in private life as John Asharley, has been enstooled as the new Chief of McCarthy Hill.

McCarthy Hill is next to Mallam, an Accra suburb.

The enstoolment ceremony took place in the early hours of Sunday, November 30, following the traditional rites which were performed by the elders of Ashaley Blafo Family of Weija.

Present were representatives of the Kwartei family and other clan members.

Together with the newly installed Asafoatse for the area, Nii Dade I, the Shipi, Nii Kwei Lamptey and Nii Asharley Nkpa II, all took turns to swear the oath of allegiance to Nii Kweikuma IV of Kweikuma Tso Shishi of James Town.

Speaking on the sidelines after his enstoolment, Nii Asharley Nkpa II thanked all family members for their unflinching support and called on people within his jurisdiction which included McCarthy, Oblogo, Oblogo Lante among others to join him as he prepares to lift the community to the next level.

He pledged to work with everyone in other that together the community will be one of the best in the Ghana and Africa in general.

“To be called upon to serve your people is a very difficult and challenging task but with God on our side and the support of the family and residents we shall overcome,” Nii stated.

He was later carried shoulder high by youth groups within the community and paraded through some principal streets within McCarthy Hill and its environs.
