Mechanic in court for inflicting wounds

Sekondi, Nov 27, GNA- Papa Hinson, a 39-year-old auto mechanic in Takoradi on Thursday made his second appearance at the Sekondi Magistrate's court for causing unlawful harm.

The accused who pleaded not guilty is to re-appear on December 14.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said Hinson and his wife as well as the complainant, Moses Aidoo, a City Guard of the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly, lived at Nkontompo near Sekondi.

He said Hinson suspected his wife of having an affair with Aidoo and following frequent quarrels the two separated and the wife went and stayed with her mother in the same area.

Sergeant Okyere said on November 18 the accused saw the wife entering the room of the complainant.

He said Hinson followed the wife into the room and attacked the complainant with a blade and inflicted lacerations on his face, chest, stomach and hands.

Accused on robbery charge remanded Tema, Nov 27, GNA- Mrs Florence Ninepence, sitting at the Tema Development Corporation magistrate's court, on Thursday expressed dismay at how two accused persons who were on robbery charge were granted bail in 1999 by unknown persons. They are Christian Amudzi and Emmanuel Aphedor. Their pleas were not taken and the prosecution did not give facts of the case.

''This is the first time the docket has been brought to my notice by the prosecution, and the surprising thing is that there is nothing to show in the docket that the accused persons were granted bail.''

She said, "what is on the docket before me is that they have been remanded into custody. Nothing shows that you have been admitted to bail.''

Mrs Ninepence remanded Aphedor and issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Amudzi who was not in court and ordered the prosecution and the registrar to trace how they were granted bail.

The charge sheet in the docket dated on June 7, 1999, says Amudzi and Aphedor stole 11 tyres, six jacks, two safety goggles, three helmets, a radiator, three sets of engine bearings, one tin of grease, two tarpaulins, three car tapes and three pairs of boots from Allship Company Truck Yard, Tema.

Other items they stole included a car battery, a generator and a wheelbarrow.
