Koforidua, April 27, GNA - The Eastern Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Emmanuel Quaye-Sowah, on Wednesday stressed the organisation's determination to ensure that every citizen became a key player in community development as well as ensuring the adherence of the principles of accountability.

Mr Quaye-Sowah said this at a media briefing at Koforidua to highlight the launch of this year's NCCE Week, which is being celebrated on the theme: "Reducing poverty through citizens participation in local governance."

He said the Commission was looking forward to a time when there would be a departure from the "election democracy" posture, as currently existing, to a more proactive and sustained "participatory democracy", at a time when people will be more concerned about how matters affecting their welfare could be solved "rather than who should be or not be the next Assemblyman."
