Apam (C/R), June 22, GNA - The media, particularly the Frequency Modulation (FM) Radio Stations have been urged to give equal publicity to Fathers Day as they do to Mothers Day.
Many people, in an interview conducted by the Ghana News Agency at Apam last Sunday, expressed disappointment about the low publicity given to the celebration.
Mrs Anna Ayettey, a seamstress, noted that not all fathers were irresponsible and said the Day would offer children the chance to give presents to them.
Miss Jaajah Noah-Appiah also a seamstress said it was surprising that even though men were in the majority of the staff of FM stations, they did not deem it fit to give prominence to the celebration of Fathers Day.
The situation, she said had created friction between some fathers and their children because they felt slighted. Mr Ebo Mellick, an electrician stated that without fathers mothers could not produce children, which made it imperative for Fathers Day to be highlighted.
Mr Kweku Sulley, a staff of the Gomoa District secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) conceded that some parents shirked their responsibilities but added that the behaviour of some individuals should not affect the responsible ones. Those interviewed said they had heard about this year's celebration on the eve of the celebration unlike Mothers Day, which was given publicity over a week to the time.
