Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Nana Kojo Acquah II, Tufuhene of Swedru has jointly cut the sod for the re-construction of the Melcom building in Agona Swedru.

It would be recalled that fire gutted the old Melcom building in Agona Swedru on December 22, 2012.

Mr Oppong said the reconstruction of Melcom in the Agona West Municipality would boost trading since most traders bought goods from the place at wholesale prices to sell.

He said the new Melcom building would include a pharmacy, clinic and other facilities to boost trading activities.

Mr Oppong said the company had completed payment of compensations on the land for the project.

He said the Swedruman Council of Chiefs had agreed to offer the land in front of Mandela Market to Melcom Group of Companies.

Mr Oppong said the Assembly is prepared to enter into an agreement with the private sector to create jobs and wealth for the youth.

Mr Avender Singh, Chief Operating Officer of Melcom Group of Companies, said more than 50 youth would be recruited from Agona Swedru on completion of the project.
