Taifa-Dome, Feb. 20, GNA - Professor Mike Oquaye, Second Deputy Speake= r of Parliament on Saturday presented 20 pieces of streetlights worth 48,000 Ghana cedis to Ayima Gorno, a suburb of Taifa, where residents have been suffering from frequent armed robbery.
Prof. Mike Oquaye, Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, promised to bring more streetlights to the constituency adding that he was the first MP to supply electric poles to Taifa and its surroundings. At a short ceremony organized by the Ayima Gorno Down Land Lords Association in Taifa to acknowledge receipt of the lights, Prof Oquaye enumerated some development projects he had assisted to construct in constituencies within his jurisdiction that included two Police Posts and a roundabout to minimise the frequent accidents near the Electricity Office. Others include a bridge constructed across a river within the Taifa Burkina area, an ICT Unit and Library located near Kwabenya Electricity Office.
Prof. Oquaye promised to ensure the completion of a Senior High School being constructed closer to the library and embark on the construction of a Hospital that would cater for the health needs of the people. Prof. Oquaye told the press, after a visit to the hospital site, that it would consist of a theatre, two maternity wards, female, male and children's wards.
He expressed regret that some of the roads in Taifa that were under construction had delayed because the contractors are awaiting payment to enable them to continue.
The press also inspected a site meant for one-storey Police Charge Office, which the plan, Prof. Oquaye said, was done in conjunction with the Police Administration and that the building would be completed within six months. Touching on the supply of water to the Dome-Kwabenya area, he said he had been able to lay an underground pipe from Weija through a grant and expressed the hope that it would be completed when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) comes to power. The landlords appealed for metres from the Electricity Company of Ghan= a and promised to submit memos for consideration by the Company. In attendance were Mr Mike Oquaye Jnr, NPP Regional Communication Director and the Constituency Youth Patron, Mr Moses Forjour, NPP Chairman of Dome-Kwabenya, his vice Mr Adjei Bekoe and the Taifa North Assemblyman, Mr Agyenim Boateng.
