Saltpond (C/R), Nov. 2, GNA - The Mfantseman District Assembly on Monday elected Mr. Adjei Asamoah Kusi, Administrative Officer of Mfantseman District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service as the new Presiding Member.
He defeated Mr. Frank Neequaye, the incumbent with 48 votes as against 17 in the second balloting after the first one ended 43-20 in favour of Mr. Asamoah Kusi.
In the first election held a fortnight ago, none of the two contestants secured the mandatory two-thirds votes of the total membership of the assembly after two balloting. In an acceptance speech, Mr. Asamoah Kusi expressed gratitude to the members of the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and gave the assurance that he would not disappoint them.
He called for co-operation from members, especially the former Presiding Member and the staff of the assembly to transform conditions in the district positively.
The new PM said his doors were opened to all people who needed his services and called for prayers from all to make his work successful. Mr. B.K. Koomson, the District Co-ordinating Director commended the out-going PM for the able manner he handled the affairs of the assembly and appealed to him to make available his expertise to the new PM anytime the need arose.
Mr. Kwaku Aboagye, the Mfantseman District Magistrate who swore the new PM into office noted that partisan politics was destroying the tenets of the assembly, adding that the reasons for making the district assemblies non-partisan was being defeated. "Partisan politics retard progress, therefore work as a team to achieve good results," he advised. The assembly's sub-committees were reconstituted.
