The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has made progress in revenue generation for the past two years, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal chief Executive said at the first ordinary meeting of the Asembly at Saltpond
In 2010, the Assembly collected GH?374,243.49 as against the target GH?374.034.00, and in 2011 it collected GH?545,878.38 as against GH?565,834.00 representing 96 per cent of the estimated target.
He said the Assembly generated GH?99,280.91 during the first quarter of 2012 representing only 17 per cent of the annual target of GH?565,834.00 and appealed to members to work hard to support the collectors to achieve the target.
Mr Hayfron said the Assembly had achieved a lot in terms of development projects under GETFund Projects, Ministry of Education Projects and CEDECOM Projects.
Apart from six key projects from CEDECOM, it has also given soft loans to three Salt Manufacturing companies at Anomabo, Suprudo and Kuntu as well as eight boreholes under Government of Ghana Borehole Project.
Mr Hayfron said the Assembly was successful in Functional Organisational Assessment Tool (FOAT) being used by Ministry of Local Government to assess the performance of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and qualified for District Development Facility (DDF).
Mr Hayfron said the Tripartite Partnership Project being implemented at Mankessim was in progress and the projects which were in three lots were at various stages of completion.
He said the reconstruction of some roads in the Municipality was in progress and said tarring of Eyisam-Narkwa road, Abor Junction to Abor roads had been completed.
He said as a result of delays on Essuehyia-Otuam road, the Ministry of Roads and Highways had deployed its Mobile Maintenance Unit to ensure early completion.
Mr Hayfron said 20 communities had been selected to benefit from Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) and each of them was to identify 75 households from which members would be selected to benefit from the programme.
The MCE said the Mfantseman Mutual Health Insurance Scheme had registered 183,189 as at the end of April 2012 and had issued 12,022 ID Cards to clients.
He said the Scheme had paid GH?384,315.60 as a claim from the total amount of GH?659,619.50 submitted by some facilities that it operated with.
Mr Hayfron appealed to members of the Assembly to canvas for markets for the Rural Technology Facility at Mankessim to sustain it and to generate revenue for the Assembly.
He said a Local Economic Development (LED), which aims at supporting small, micro and medium enterprises, had been adopted as the main strategy for poverty alleviation and wealth creation in local communities.**
