Mfantsiman old girl gives generator to alma mater

Prof Kwame Osei Kwarteng, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Mfantseman Girls’ Senior High School, has appealed to the government to put in place pragmatic policies to fix the power problem facing the country.

Prof Kwarteng, Associate Professor of the Department of History of the University of Cape Coast, said erratic power supply was seriously affecting the academic work of the universities, polytechnics and senior high schools.

He said this when Mrs. Jessica Ama Nkrumah, a business woman and an old student of Mfantseman Girls, donated GH¢72,000.00 50 KV generator to the school at Saltpond.

Pro. Kwarteng said the load - shedding problem had brought an additional financial burden on the students to contribute to buy generators.

He said the academic calendars of institutions of higher learning could be disturbed and could make negative impact on the students.

Prof. Kwarteng appealed to the government to come out with comprehensive short and long terms policies and programmes to solve the energy crisis.

He praised Mrs. Nkrumah for the donation.

Prof Kwarteng said the erratic power supply would affect the final year students of SHS and other tertiary institutions who are preparing to write their final examinations.

Mrs. Nkrumah said she is an old girl, her daughter is a student in the School and when she visited her there was no light. She therefore decided to assist the school.

She appealed to old students to assist their Alma Mater, adding that this was the period the old students must show their love towards the school to enable current students to study without hindrance.

Mrs. Challotte A. Addo, the Headmistress, said the generator would supply power to the administrative block, kitchen, 18-unit new classrooms, six-unit classrooms, school chapel and the old dining hall.

She said four year ago the school received two buses and a generator from Joy Fm and others that had contributed to the smooth running of the School.

The Headmistress praised Mrs. Nkrumah and said the government alone cannot solve the problems of infrastructural development of educational institutions.

She called on the old students and other corporate bodies to assist the school to improve the performance of students.
