MiDA donates farming implements to Pokrom-Nsabaah farmers

Nsawam, March 28, GNA - The Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) on Wednesday presented several farming inputs worth about 38,800 dollars to 194 pineapple and cash crop farmers at Pokrom-Nsabaah near Nsawam in the Akuapem South Municipality. The items include fertilizers, willington boots, marks, cutlasses and helmets. Mr. Michael Asamani, leader of the team of MiDA said the items were free offer to the farmers to enable them to expand and produce more foodstuff and pineapple for export to generate foreign money for the development of the country. Dr. Owuraku Sakyi-Dawson, Regional Implementation Consultant for MiDA announced that 93 farmers from the Volta and Eastern Regions would also benefit from similar assistance from the Authority very soon. He appealed to the beneficiary farmers not to sell the items but use them for the intended purpose.

Mr Paul Siameh, Agriculture Director of Akuapem South Municipality assured MiDA team that his outfit would pay regular visit to the farms to ensure

that the farmers use the inputs for the benefit of the nation. Nana Toah Djan II, Chief of Pokrom-Nsabaah, who chaired the function appealed to the organization to establish pineapple juice processing factory in the area or revive the Nsawam Canary and Astex Company so that the farmers' produce would not go waste as well as provide employment to the people. Receiving the items on behalf of the farmers, Miss Mary Akotua expressed appreciation to the MiDA and assured them that the items would be put to good use.
