Mining community groups to be set up in Amansie West constituency- Amansie West MP

The Member of Parliament of the Amansie West Constituency, Honorable Joseph Albert Quarm has disclosed that a Mining community Group which would be made up of about 5-10 people would be set up and be given a concession to operate on once the ban on Small Scale mining has been lifted by the Government... Hon Quarm was speaking at the sidelines of a Town Hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information and the Ministry Local Government and Rural Development in Manso Nkwanta.

The Mp said once the Group has been set up and given a concession, in the form of a cooperative, they would be allowed to operate 100m from river bodies as the Law stipulates and would be made to reclaim the lands.

Again on measures to sanitize the small scale mining industry, the Legislator said Government has retooled the Mineral Commission with 45 pickups whiles the number of Mineral Commission's offices has been increased from 12-33 with one of the offices in Manso Nkwanta.

On the achievements he has chalked so far as the Mp for the area, Honorable Quarm listed a plethora of roads which are under construction and a couple others which work is about to start.

He mentioned the 20 km Pakyi No. 2 to Antoakrom road,Asaman Junction to Agoroyesum and the Ahwerewa to Esaase road.

In the field of Education, Hon Quarm said through his benevolence and love for education, he has set up a GH100,000 scholarship scheme for needy to brilliant students in the constituency.Through lobbying, he said, Masoman Senior High School has been captured as part of the model Schools which would witness massive infrastructural development very soon.

On his part the District Chief Executive for the Amansie West District, Honorable Nii Larteh Ollenu said the Town Hall meeting presents a great opportunity for leaders to communicate and engage with the people who have given them their mandate to serve them.

Currently, he said, plans are far advanced for a Waste Management company called Ghana First to construct 24 modern toilet facilities in 20 communities in the district. The project is a Public Private Partnership which is intended to boost sanitation in the district. He took the opportunity to tout his achievements after barely four (4) months in office.

He mentioned the construction of Medical Officer's bungalow at Manso Nkwanta,Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) Compound at Hiakose/Aboade,Nurses Quarters at Manso Nkwanta,Construction of Fire Station at Manso Nkwanta among others.

The Regional Director of Information Services Department, Nana Akrasi Sarpong praised the people for turning up in their numbers to grace the occasion. He said the Ministry intends to bring governance to the doorsteps of the people through the Town Hall meeting.

He called for the support of the people to the Assembly and the Government to enable them carry out their mandate. Nana Akrasi mentioned Government flagship programmes such as Free Senior High School and the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) as policies which would help mitigate the hardships in the society.

There were presentations on Planting for Food and Jobs, Health, Cocoa and on Small and Medium Enterprises.
