Minister Donates Relief items to Special School

Tongo (UE) Jan 24, GNA- The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo and his Deputy, Mrs. Lucy Awini on Friday donated various items t= o the Gbeogo School for the Deaf at Tongo in the Talensi-Nabdam District of=

the Upper East Region. The items were; 50 mattresses, 10 cartons of soap, 200 bowls, and 2 boxes of matches, 100 plastic buckets, 20 plastic cups, 20 lanterns, 5 cartons of cooking oil, 10 cartons of key soap bars and 100 pieces of washing soap.

Presenting the items, Mr. Woyongo said the items were to facilitate their stay in the school and to encourage them to learn. He urged the students not see themselves as vulnerable but should le= arn hard to compete with other children in the country, adding," education wa= s a key component in social life that could lead them to rise high to achieve=

laurels".

Mrs. Awini urged the female students to see themselves as ambassador= s for development, adding that they should emulate the examples of renounce= d females in the country such as herself, the District Chief Executive, Mrs= .. Vivian Anafo, Mrs. Mould Iddrisu, the Attorney General and the Minister o= f Justice, among others who have excelled in various endeavours. Receiving the items, the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Francis Andii= ba said the items had come at the right time and gave the assurance that the= y would be put to good use.

Mr. Andiiba mentioned some of the challenges confronting the school including the unavailability of electricity, staff bungalows, students' dormitories, and good road to the school, and said the amenities were crucial for the development of the children. Mr. Francis Ayaaba, District Director of Education, noted that the school was the only one serving the Region hence the need to give it due attention and appealed to philanthropists and non-governmental organizations for help.
