Minister appeals to cooperate bodies to support UER

Bolgatanga, Aug. 17, GNA - Mrs Lucy Awuni, Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, has appealed to co-operate bodies to support the region to celebrate its 50th anniversary scheduled for September this year.

The Deputy Minister made the appeal during the opening of a new office for TIGO, one of the telecommunications networks, in Bolgatanga.

She indicated that the RCC needed more support from cooperate bodies and other stakeholders and entreated them to put the region on their Co-operate Social Responsibility Agenda to support it to have a successful 50th anniversary.

Mrs Awuni, who commended management of TIGO for opening an office in the region, pointed out that the new branch would further boost not only technological advancement but would help increase financial and business transactions in the area.

She explained that government viewed the telecommunication industry as one of the major areas of national development and that was why it had created the enabling environment for investors to venture into that industry.

She entreated the management of TIGO to be more innovative and to develop appropriate products that would meet the needs of majority of the population to enable it to compete favourably with others in the telecom industry.

Mr Anthony Dadzie, Territorial Manager of TIGO, said the establishment of the office in the region would enable his outfit to render effective services to the general public and encourage people to patronise TIGO products.

He explained that among all the telecommunication establishments in the Country, TIGO had the best services which were very affordable and accessible, saying that one could buy a fifty-pesewa TIGO unit to feed his or her phone.

He said in addition, TIGO was in partnership with the National Youth Employment Scheme, to generate jobs for the youth in the region and country as a whole.
