Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to take urgent steps to repair the non-functional traffic light system in the regional capital, Bolgatanga.

Ms. Abayage, who made the appeal in her opening speech at a press conference by the road ministry in Bolgatanga Friday, also appealed to the Ministry to install traffic lights in other major urban areas in the region such as the Bawkuband Navrongo Municipalities.

She also asked for the construction of more speed ramps on major roads in the region, especially the Bolgatanga - Navrongo - Paga ECOWAS highway.

On the traffic light system in the region, the Minister revealed that procurement for traffic lights equipment was almost complete and would soon be dispatched and installed in three urban areas in the region.

He said five additional traffic lights were going to be installed in the regional capital, Bolgatanga, three in the Bawku Municipality, and two in the Kasane-Nankana Municipality.

On the dysfunctional traffic lights system in the Bolgatanga Municipality, the roads Minister an order has been given to the urban director to immediately task professionals to repair the anomaly.

"The issue of traffic lights in the region has been noted and is being taken care of and being worked on. We have selected a number of traffic lights for Bolgatanga, Bawku and Navrongo. We are doing five in Bolgatanga, we are doing three in Bawku and we are doing two in Navrongo".
