Accra, Aug. 23, GNA - Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways, has assured the Construction, Building and Materials Workers Union (CBMWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) that Government is working hard towards the appointment of a substantive Board Chairman for the Ghana Highway Authority.
Mr Gidisu said as the sector Minister, he had been directed to hold the fort for work to proceed smoothly until a Chairman was appointed.
He was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the CBMWU's call for the appointment of a substantive board chairman.
Mr Gidisu said the current board was also guided by rules in the conduct of meetings and all other matters appearing before it were dealt with on merit and, where need be, issues were subjected to vote to ascertain majority views.
"To say that the board would be ineffective because of the absence of a substantive chairman may mean undermining the integrity of the generality of members", he added.
Earlier on, Mr Pius K. Quainoo, General Secretary of the CMBWU, had called on the Minister to expedite action on the appointment of a substantive Board Chairman fearing that in the absence of one, members of the board might come under some stress.
