Busunya (B/A), March 3, GNA - Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, has called on heads of departments in newly created District Assemblies to promote team work and provide active service to enhance the accelerated development of the districts.
Mr Jumah made the call when he addressed chiefs and people as well as Assembly Members of Nkoranza North and South districts at the inauguration of the newly created Nkoranza North district at Busunya, its capital.
He stressed the need for the youth in the communities to be disciplined and to join hands with opinion leaders such as Assembly Members, unit committees and traditional authorities to initiate development programmes to improve their living conditions. Mr Jumah advised Assembly Members in the area to come together and offer the necessary support and encouragement to the District Chief Executive and the Assembly to promote peace and unity to move the district forward.
He urged the unemployed youth to eschew apathy and to engage in economic activities such as agriculture in order to become productive. Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, deplored the negative attitude of some youth at Nkoranza who were fond of writing anonymous letters against political heads and traditional authorities in the area, a practice, he said had negatively affected the development of the district.
"It is better we call on and advice our leaders if they go wrong so that they would change from their wrongdoings, rather than to write anonymous letters about them," he added.
He urged the people of Nkoranza to appreciate the good works and the number of development projects initiated for the district by the government and vote massively to retain the ruling New Patriotic Party in power in the impending elections.
Okatakyie Agyemang Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza Traditional area, commended President J.A Kufuor for creating four districts in the area. They are Kintampo North, Kintampo South, Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South, he said and urged the people to pay their taxes promptly to enable the Assemblies to generate enough revenue for development. Mr. E.K Boadum, Nkoranza District Magistrate swore into office the 28 Assembly Members who later elected Mr. Benjamin Adu-Darko, Assembly Member for Boabeng-Fiema, as the Presiding Member.
Adu-Darko, a 51-year-old professional teacher, thanked his colleagues for their confidence in him and promised to work hard towards the development of the Assembly and called for their support and co-operation. 03 March 08
