Minister commissions Bawku market

Bwaku N/R July 15, GNA- Mr. Mahami Salifu the Upper East Regional Minister has urged the people of Bwaku to regard the Bwaku central market as rallying point and symbol of unity of all ethnic groups in the district so as to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence. Mr. Salifu made a call on Monday at Bwaku during the commissioning of the Bwaku central market.

He noted that the exchange of goods, mutual relations among the ethnic groups would be enhanced for total reconciliation to create the way for progress and development in the area.

Mr Salifu reiterated the government's determination to continue all projects, which the previous government could not complete, adding that Bawku central market is a manifestation of this policy.

The establishment of the market, he said, is a practicable expression of ECOWAS protocol of free movement of people and goods as evident by the Togo and Benin representatives at the function. Mr. Salifu commended the EU for its numerous assistance to the region through the provision of infrastructure in all areas of endeavours, which have helped alleviate the suffering of the people. He appealed to the district assembly to be fair in the allocation of the stalls to ensure equity in the system in order to curb corruption as well as maintaining the market properly.

The Regional Minister further appealed to the users of the market to play their part of ensuring that the place is clean so as to avoid an outbreak of diseases.

Mr. Abdulai Rahman Gumah, Bwaku East DCE in an address stated that the district, over the last 13 month have witness a considerable increase in the number of development projects scattered over it. This, according to the DCE is unprecedented in the history of the district, stressing that the development projects cover education, health, economic and social infrastructure.

Mr. Gumah said five markets have so far been constructed in five communities, six rural clinics with staff quarters, 45 classroom blocks for 45 communities, boreholes and a lot of KVIP constructed within a short period of NPP administration.

Dr Kwaku Osafo, EU project manager disclosed that 387 million cedis was use to finance the market project, adding that Bwaku East alone received a total of 42 socio-economic infrastructure community projects totalling over 3.6 billion cedis out of an expected 152 projects for the region.
