Chiraa (B/A), Sept 19, GNA - Mr Ignatius Baafour Awuah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, on Tuesday appealed to parents to take advantage of the government's policies on education to educate their children.
He made the appeal when he visited some primary schools at Chiraa in the Sunyani municipality to welcome primary one pupils on their first day in school.
The programme dubbed, "My first day at school", is aimed at entertaining class one pupils to encourage them to stay in school. Schools the minister visited included Chiraa Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Primary, Presbyterian Primary, Methodist Primary, Roman Catholic Primary and Islamic Primary.
Mr Baafour-Awuah said the era when parents denied their children education because they could not afford school fees and school feeding fees no longer existed since the government had tried its best to help solve such problems.
"The government is doing all these to ensure that children who are the nation's future leaders and human resource base for development are well educated," he said.
Mrs Akua Akubour Debrah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Education Director, advised the pupils not to say away from school with unnecessary excuses but to always try to attend school. "Education is the best asset that every child can acquire" she said and urged the teachers to enrol only children aged six years and above and not those below the required age so that the capitation grant could be used judiciously.
Barimah Minta Afari II, Chiraahene, thanked the government for introducing good policies to ensure that Ghanaians led meaningful lives.
