New Abirem (E/R), Sept. 28, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, has expressed worry about courts still using manual typewriters during sessions.

He said in this computer age using such machines was unacceptable and appealed to the Chief Justice to help change the situation to enhance the work of the Judicial Service.

Dr Apea-Kubi said this when inaugurating a Magistrate Court at New Abirem in the Birim North District on Wednesday.

Dr Apea-Kubi said a major problem confronting the region is illegal mining and lumbering leading not only to the pollution of the environment but also destruction of major water bodies.

He said these illegal activities were occurring as a result of the non-enforcement on laws on mining and called for a review of all the relevant laws relating to the environment.

Mrs Mavis Ama Frimpong, Birim North District Chief Executive, said the District though small in size was the fastest growing one in the region as it was surrounded by vibrant commercial towns like Nkawkaw, Akyem Oda and Kade.
