Sekondi, July 26, GNA- Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, on Thursday called on the management of the Ghana Telecom (GT) to come out with a strategy to develop the company. He made the call when Mr Dickson Oduro Nyaning, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GT paid a courtesy call on him at his office at Sekondi.

Mr Amoah said there is the need for the company to have a strategy in place to withstand the competition from private telecommunication companies.

He said the competition from the private companies should propel the GT to increase its efficiency and offer quality services. Mr Amoah said the company should also formulate a maintenance strategy to keep its equipment in good condition to enable it to perform better. He said customers in the region are not enjoying some of the new products of the company and also it is difficult to assess the GT beyond Agona Nkwanta.

Mr Amoah said the company is not available in most areas in the region although some of its competitors are operating there. He urged the management of the company to rectify these anomalies by increasing its coverage to ensure greater patronage. Mr Amoah advised management of the company to run it effectively and efficiently now that it is composed wholly of Ghanaians. Replying, Mr Nyaning said the company was doing everything possible to improve its services in the region and has planned to extend the "Superhighway optical fibre", a high telecommunication channel, to Sekondi by December this year to enhance service delivery. He said currently, the company is creating an optical fibre route at Essipong near Sekondi.

Mr Nyanning was accompanied by some top management personnel including Mr David Mettle, Chief Technical Officer, Mr Devine Kpetigo, Chief Officer in-charge of Customer Assess Network, Mr Philip Sowah, Chief Officer in-charge of OneTouch Services, Mrs Irene Stella Appiah, a Chief Officer and Mr John Appiah Boateng, Western Regional Manager.
