Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, on Wednesday urged members of Professional Secretaries Association-Ghana (PROSAG), to unite to improve their operations.

He noted that the association could move forward and achieve its desired objectives only when members were united and developing positive strategies, adding “‘unity we stand and divided we fall’’.

Mr Sekyere who is a Patron of PROSAG, made the call at the International Secretaries Day (ISD) celebration organised by PROSAG in Accra.

ISD was first organised in 1952 as National Secretaries Week under the auspices of National Secretaries Association of the United States, currently known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Mr Sekyere said the day was set aside in an effort to recognise secretaries for their contributions at the workplace and attract people to secretarial careers.

He noted that, professional secretaries were the face of any organisation and the first point of call in every organisation; hence there is the need for them to maintain good image, since it gave an impression about the organisation.

Mr Sekyere said it was imperative that secretaries acted professionally in the discharge of their duties.

He said professional secretaries must strive to be at the highest level and think beyond administrative work and upgrade their knowledge to reflect the dynamic changes in global associations.

Mr Sekyere appealed to the members to be disciplined, abide by the association’s rules and regulations and pay their dues for the development of the group.

He promises to support the association to ensure its sustenance.

Ms Rosemary Ackah, Acting President of PROSAG said the association was registered in November 2010 with the aim of bringing all secretaries in the Ministries under one umbrella to share ideas on the way forward.**
