Minister worried about increase in HIV/AIDS

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Narh Dormetey, has expressed concern about the high rate of HIV-AIDS infection in the Region, especially in the Manya and Yilo Krobo Districts.

"It is regrettable to observe that record at the two District Assemblies lead in HIV/AIDS cases, rendering the people weak in labour".

Mr Dometey was addressing the people of Sutapong, near Asesewa, in the Manya Krobo District on Friday.

He stressed the government's commitment to improve the lot of the rural dwellers and urged the people to take developmental initiatives to earn more financial support from the central government.

In a welcoming address, the Chief of the town, Nene Wusi Tetteh, commended the NPP government for putting up a three-classroom block and four-unit teachers' quarters in the area to motivate teachers to accept postings to the town.

He appealed to the government to construct an agricultural office in the area to facilitate access to farm inputs since farming is the main occupation.

The Chief also asked for electricity to be extended to the area to attract investors, promote tourism and create employment for the youth.

The Chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), Mr Andrew Tekpetey, asked for the provision of cr?ches and nurseries at the community level to give the children good foundation in education.
