Accra, Oct 28, GNA - The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ghana Education Service have started taking delivery of consignments of items for this year's National Best Teacher's Award to take place on November 4 at the St Augustine's College in Cape Coast. The items worth 1.76 billion cedis included 16 double door refrigerators, 16 television sets and 26 computers.
The amount provided by the Ghana Education Trust Fund comprise of 1.2 billion cedis for national prizes and 560 million cedis for regional awards.
Rev Augustine Harry Awortwi, National Coordinator for the award scheme, said whereas the overall best teacher would receive a cheque for 300 million cedis as the prize for a three bedroom house, this year the first, second and third runner ups would receive computers in addition to their awards.
He said the regions had their share of 80 refrigerators, 80 television sets and 80 gas cookers.
Ms Lydia Osei, Deputy Director General in-charge of Management Service, said the aim of the scheme was to motivate and encourage teachers to impart quality education to children to help them to unearth their talents and develop their potentials to become useful and serve as the human resource to spearhead the country's development agenda for a vibrant society. 28 Oct. 05
