A 92-year-old man accused of wizardry by some residents of Kalabule, in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, has been rescued by the Ghana Police Service.
The timely intervention by police personnel ensured that the old man was not lynched by some community members who discovered the man in the bushes along the Densu River at Kalabule.
Judging from his appearance of how weak he was looking, some residents concluded that the man had fallen from the sky overnight, a report by metrotvonline.com said.
Furthermore, the report said that his inability to communicate constructively with the people who first found him, his strange behaviour, and a statement indicating that he was in the company of another person during the night raised their suspicions.
According to the report, the victim, identified as John Quaye, was reported missing by his relatives a day before his rescue.
His relatives, who reconciled with him, strongly opposed assertions that the man was a wizard just because he was found in the bushes.
They stated that John is a retired cocoa farmer and even owned a house in the suburb and was only suffering from dementia as a result of old age.
This comes in the wake of nine persons remanded by the Bongo District Court on August 7, 2024.
According to reports, the nine individuals, including a lecturer and pastors, allegedly accused a 61-year-old woman of witchcraft and subjected her to maltreatment.
