Missing farmer found dead in a bush

Abiriw (E/R), Jan. 28, GNA - The Akropong Police on Thursday discovere= d the body of Asiamah Bekoe, a 40-year-old farmer, who was kidnapped on Wednesday by some unidentified people from Dawu.

The deceased was kidnapped on Wednesday (January 26) whilst in the company of seven young men from Abiriw to work on a disputed land. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Anthony Addepa, Akropong Divisional Police Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency that an armed mo= b from Dawu allegedly led by one Okyeame Adu opened fire on the group, wounding two and leading to the kidnapping and murdering of the farmer. ASP Addepa said the police went to the crime scene with a local search party and found the lifeless body of Bekoe, who was shot in the stomach. The body has been deposited at the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

At a meeting with the chiefs and people of Abiriw, Mr George Opare-Addo, Akuapem North District Chief Executive gave the assurance that the District Security Council would do all it could to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.

He pleaded with the chief of Abiriw, Nana Kwame Henaku III, to speak t= o the aggrieved youth to exercise restraint whilst the police conduct investigations into the matter.

Nana Kwame Henaku appealed to the police to ensure that as a matter of urgency all those behind the heinous crime are arrested. Meanwhile, one Kwasi Agyei, who was a prime suspect, has been arrested whilst the youth of the town have demonstration against the crime.
