A 250-capacity conference hall, christened Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan Conference Hall, after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been commissioned in Kumasi by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The occasion also marked the general refurbishment of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, under an infrastructural development agenda by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, lauded the Regional Commander, his able officers and district commanders for the total transformation of the Regional Headquarters, and urged them to keep up the good work to ensure a face-lift of the Police Service in the region.

The IGP commended donor supporters, including GOIL, Consar Limited, Unity Oil Group of Companies, Glico Group of Companies and Unique Royal Club among others, for supporting the police in the implementation of the project to ensure that the police lived up to the task of preventing crime and protection of lives and properties, since the government alone could not provide all resources for effective policing.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, charged the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, to live above partisan politics and work professionally to ensure that the region remains peaceful.

The Ashanti King noted that the Police Service was mandated to ensure law and order and a peaceful atmosphere to make sure the citizenry went about their usual businesses without fear of their lives.

Otumfuo, however, expressed his gratitude to the Regional Police Command, under the able leadership of DCOP Kofi Boakye, for reducing the crime rate in the region.

DCOP Kofi Boakye, on his part, also commended Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Regional Security Council (RESEC), and the entire police force and citizenry for the support given towards the realisation of his dream of making the region safe and peaceful, towards improving the economic activities and national growth.

He stated that law and order is the fulcrum of democracy, and urged his men to continue working hard to build the confidence of the people in the service.

DCOP Boakye gave the assurance that the police was more than determined to take over all its lands which have been encroached upon for infrastructural developmental.
