Monitor children’s use of internet - Mrs Abodu

The Most Holy Heart School off Russia Road at Dansoman, has held its 22nd Speech and Prize-Giving Day, with a call on teachers, parents and guardians, to monitor closely the use of the Internet by school children.

Mrs Theresa Afenyo Abodu, Deputy Director of Education in charge of Private Schools who made the call, pointed out that the Internet with its open access to the various social platforms was spewing out many negative diversions and attacks on the moral fibre of the children.

Mrs Abodu, therefore, urged parents, guardian and teachers to counsel children against the negative use of the Internet.

She urged stakeholders in education to give incentives to motivate teachers, and provide schools with the basic facilities, to promote effective teaching and learning.

Mr E J P Brown, the Executive Director of the School in charge of Administration, said Management had put in place appropriate mechanisms to ensure the smooth-running of the school.

Mr William O Garbrah, Principal of the School, said the theme for the occasion: “Nurturing and training the youth for responsible citizenship at the basic education level, the difficulties and the way forward,” was apt, because the authorities were determined to churn out disciplined children who would grow up into responsible adults.

Mr Garbrah expressed Management’s satisfaction about the excellent performance of the students in the 2013/14 Basic Education Certificate Examinations, and said everything possible would be done to maintain the wonderful record.

The children entertained the audience with displays in cultural drumming and dancing, as well as poetry recitals, among other entertainments.

Prizes and certificates were presented to deserving pupils and students, with Master Dennis Acquah, the immediate past Senior Boys’ Prefect, emerging as the over-all best student.
