Mr Julius Debrah, the Greater Accra Regional Minister has observed that the best way for Ghana to guarantee a secured future for the youth is for parents and guardians to instill good moral virtues in them.
He therefore urged religious leaders, parents and guardians to inculcate the virtues of respect, obedience, hard work, honesty and sacrifice into the youth.
The Regional Minister was speaking at the 18th National Quadrennial Convention of the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in Accra on Saturday.
The Convention was on the theme: “Yes, let’s rebuild the wall, so they began the good work”.
Mr Debrah said there was the need to intensify Christian education to imbue into the youth the right moral aptitude to guide their conduct in the future.
The Regional Minister noted that persons with the right moral training and practice could have the tendency to eschew stealing, prostitution, recklessness, corruption, laziness and acts that undermine national progress.
Mr Divine Ayidzoe, Director of Administration at the Ministry of Education who stepped in for the sector minister, advised young Christian ladies to take their studies seriously.
He said through acquisition of a vocation as well as being hardworking that would empower them to fit well in the competitive global economic and social setting.
Mrs Rosemond Abraham, National President of YWCA, said logistical and infrastructural constraints were thwarting the effort of the Association to transfer the right kind of vocational training skills to the young ladies.
She called on corporate bodies to assist the YWCA with computers, projectors, a bus, classroom blocks and vocational tools to strengthen the capacity of the Association to function properly.
The YWCA of Ghana, founded in 1952, is a national voluntary Christian organisation affiliated to the world YWCA.
The Association seeks to enhance the roles and socio-economic status of women and provide opportunities for spiritual development.
