Tongo (U/E), April 27, GNA - An aspiring parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the controversial Talensi Constituency, Mr. Robert Nachinaab Doameng Mosore, at the weekend protested against new modalities being adopted by the party to conduct the primaries in that constituency.

He said the new modalities, specially made for only the Talensi constituency is unconstitutional, illegal, shameful and unacceptable and an indictment on the party.

"I protest unconditionally, any attempt to use the new formula to conduct the primaries in the Talensi constituency."

In a letter signed by Mr. Mosore and copied to the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mahami Salifu, the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the regional secretary of the party, the constituency secretary, and Madam Mariam Khaldi Adukoma, the other aspiring candidate, Mr. Mosore indicated that the modality did not conform to the party's constitution on the election of a parliamentary candidate.

The protest is as a result of a letter signed by the constituency secretary, Mr. Paul Agiela, saying that the constituency had been directed by the National Secretariat of the party to use old ward chairmen, some of whom had lost their positions to new members, as delegates to vote in the primaries scheduled for Thursday April 29.

Mr. Mosore said it was the decision of the party to use chairmen of the various polling station executives, including the constituency executive, as delegates who qualify as voters in the selection of a parliamentary candidate.

To satisfy this requirement, he said, the party required each polling station in the country to collate a photo album of all polling station executives, which was used in all the primaries conducted in the country including those conducted recently in the region.

He said there were even some contradictions with the list of names presented by the constituency secretary as delegates, adding, "it is an indication of the fact that the constituency executive were merely hand-picking their own representatives to suit their favourite Madam Khaldi".

Mr. Mosore further contended that Paul Agiela and Madam Khaldi went round the constituency campaigning from one polling station to another.

"The sudden decision not to recognize the accredited persons who form the Electoral College is a surprise," he declared.

He said the list of delegates does not satisfy the party's constitutional arrangement and is, therefore, unacceptable for the primaries.

Mr. Mosore, an engineer with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), called on the party to ensure that the right things are done to facilitate a fair, transparent and genuine poll in the constituency.
