Buokrukruwa (B/A), Sept. 23, GNA- Eighty percent of complaints received by the Tano District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Brong Ahafo are mainly on non-maintenance of children by parents.
Mr Gilbert Adzraku, District Director, who disclosed this at Buokrukruwa near Bechem during a public education programme in connection with the 10th anniversary celebration of the Commission, noted that the trend did not augur well for the district and called on the people to lead responsible lives.
Speaking on "The right to education", Mr Adzraku advised parents to sacrifice for their children's education, which, he said, was an investment for their upkeep in old age.
He said the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme was introduced to allow every child of school-going age to have access to quality basic education.
It is regrettable to note that some parents woefully fail to provide their children with the educational materials for effective teaching and learning, and called on such parents to change for the better.
In a quiz competition organized by the Commission at Bechem for Junior Secondary Schools, Bechem Methodist came first, followed by Bechem S.D.A., St. Vincent and St. Joseph's JSS. They were presented with wall clocks as their prizes. 23 Sept. 03
