Thu, 16 Sep 2004 Source: GNA

Aworowa (B/A) Sept. 16,, GNA - Mr. Isaac Osei-Antwi, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, has called on community health providers to be magnanimous towards patients.

He explained that even though their salaries did not commensurate with the services they rendered they should bear in mind that they were serving humanity as Florence Nightingale did. Mr. Osei-Antwi was presenting assorted drugs worth two million cedis donated by Mother and Child Foundation, an NGO, at separate ceremonies to clinics at Forikrom and Aworowa in the municipality. The MCE called on the staff of the clinics to use the drugs judiciously for the benefit of patients.

At the clinic at Aworowa, where the presentation coincided with the weighing-in of babies, Mr. Osei-Antwi asked the people to educate family members to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Mr. Osei-Antwi explained that the scheme was an alternative system of paying for health care and aimed at helping to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.

He dismissed rumours that the NPP government had planned to use funds generated under the NHIS to finance its electioneering campaigns.

Madam Theresa Ankrah and Madam Serathina Asogi, midwives In-charge of the clinics at Aworowa and Forikrom respectively, who received the drugs, thanked the NGO and the Assembly for the gesture.

They noted that the drugs had arrived at the appropriate time and would help promote health delivery services to the people. Mr. Osei-Antwi, who later inspected on-going development projects at Asuogyaman Secondary Technical School urged the tutors and students to work hard to raise the academic performance of the school.
