Mpasatia (Ash), July 12, GNA - A 13-member Board of Governors for the Mpasatia Senior High/Technical School (SHTS), was on Friday inaugurated, with a call on them to be guided by best practices to ensure efficient management of the school.

Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said they needed to be conversant with labour laws and relations.

"Every decision you take, every sanction you impose or every procedure you adopt, must always come under very close scrutiny to ascertain whether the decisions are in accordance with the rule of law, democratic practices and code of discipline and ethics of the Ghana Education Service (GES)", he said.

Mr Onyinah advised them to assist the school authorities to solve conflicts and address other challenges that tends to undermine effective teaching and learning.

The Education Director pointed out that although the ultimate responsibility to ensure the child's right to education rested with the government, the challenge of transforming education was a shared one among all stakeholders.

Mr Onyinah urged the board to forge stronger links between the home, the school, community and the GES, for the school's development.

"As an institution, which seeks to control the general policy of the school, you are required to protect the school land, lobby for more infrastructure and relevant facilities to improve standards", he said.

Mr Edward Baron Asamoah, the Headmaster, said the school, which was established 20-years ago, lacks essential teaching and learning facilities, including a science laboratory, administrative block, a library, an assembly hall and staff accommodation.

Nana Kwame Arhin, a Kumasi-based legal practitioner and Chairman of the Board, pledged that, they would work hard to improve conditions in the school.
