Mpasatia (Ash), March 1, GNA - A 56.2-million cedi computer laboratory centre for the Mpasatia Secondary/Technical School in the Atwima district of Ashanti was inaugurated on Sunday at Mpasatria. The centre, which was built by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with support from the Owiredu family, was named after Dr Peter Augustine Owiredu, a renowned educationist and former chairman of the Board of Governors of the school.
The inaugural ceremony coincided with a farewell reception for the former headmaster of the school, Mr Isaac Kwaku Duku, who was transferred to the Amaniampong Secondary School at Asante-Mampong and Mr S.K. Manu, former bursar, who had gone on retirement. Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, Atwima District Director of Education, commended the outgoing headmaster for his hard work, which had ensured the development of the school.
Mr Obeng-Darko, who is also the acting headmaster of the school, said the educational institution, which was established in 1991 as a community-based secondary school, now had a student population of 469. He appealed to the Mpasatia community to assist the school to build a dormitory, science laboratory and other infrastructure to facilitate teaching and learning.
Dr Owiredu appealed to the chiefs and people of the area to institute a fund to support the school.
Mr Duku thanked the chiefs, staff and students of the school for supporting him during his tenure of office and asked them to co-operate with the incoming headmaster to ensure discipline and development of the school.
