Kumasi, Dec. 30, GNA - The Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) has appealed to all political parties and well meaning Ghanaians to ensure trouble-free campaign during next year's general election. The Mission also called for free, fair and peaceful elections to enable Ghanaians to continue to enjoy the relative peace prevailing in the country.
Sheikh Ishaque Martey, National Chairman of the GMM made the call at the 46th Annual National Convention of the Mission in Kumasi on Sunday.
The over 7,000 delegates deliberated on ways to move the Mission forward as it maps its role in the socio-economic development of the country at the four-day convention which was on the theme, "Peace and Development".
In a speech read on his behalf, Sheikh Martey urged the rank and file of the Mission to ensure that unity and brotherliness prevailed among them.
He said the Mission had 'broken many grounds' in health, education and other fields of human endeavours to facilitate national development. Sheikh Rashid Lamptey, deputy National Imam of the GMM, asked the members to always pray for peace and unity saying, it is only through this virtues that the nation could move forward.
He asked them to avoid actions and attitudes that could divide the people or breed confusion among them, or else, "the peace we are all calling for will be a mirage".
Alhaji Abu Mohammed, an NPP activist, who spoke on behalf of Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeaboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive, explained the National Insurance Health Scheme to the members and urged them to embrace the scheme for their own good.
He also asked the members not to indulge in any acts that could retard the development of the country but they should rather live in harmony with their neighbours.
Mr Osei Asibey Antwi, First Ashanti Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP, advised them to support the government in its development initiatives.
The Vice Chairman, who deputised for the Ashanti Regional Minister, urged the Muslims not to allow politics and elections to divide their ranks but should let it be a challenge to them to come together and help rebuild the country.
