Dwenewoho (B/A) Aug 1 GNA- Mr Jarvis R Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education has called on Moslem parents not to give away their young girls into early marriages at the expense of their education.
Addressing a forum of residents of Dwenewoho, near Manso in the District on the importance of girls' education, he noted that the practice had greatly affected the progress of many promising women of the sect.
Mr Agyeman-Badu said the days when it was accepted that the last place of the girl was the kitchen was a thing of the past. He asked them to enroll both their boys and girls in schools to enable them to grow to become responsible citizens. Mr Agyeman-Badu urged teachers in the area to redouble their efforts to help improve the fallen standard of education in the community.
Mr Thompson Amidu, Chairman of the unit committee, appealed to the District Director to employ Arabic teachers to serve in the local school to enable their children to learn and write the Arabic language. He explained that settler farmers from the Upper West Region dominated the area and as Moslems they wished that their children would learn the language.
