Accra, Jan. 2, GNA - Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam, on Friday led Muslims to pray for peace and prosperity for the nation, as part of activities to mark the 11th Anniversary of the Fourth Republic.

Similar prayer sessions were held throughout the nation to commemorate the anniversary, being celebrated under the theme: " Good Governance Through Democracy - Three Years of Positive Change." Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheik I. C. Quaye, who represented the Government at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque, in Accra, urged Muslims to desist from acts that would undermine the peace of the nation, especially during political campaigns.

He said the utterances and actions should be in line with Islam, which champions peace and righteousness at all times.

As followers of Islam, Sheikh Quaye, said Muslims should consider it as their individual responsibility to pray for peace at all times and ensure that peace prevailed in their communities and the nation. He said the Government, led by President John Agyekum Kufuor, would continue to pursue programmes and policies that would strengthen good governance and facilitate the achievement of socio-economic development and the reduction of poverty and diseases.

Other activities to mark the anniversary, which was kick-started with a national broadcast by President Kufuor, include a musical concert, photo exhibition, fun games and People's Assemblies.
