The Northern Region House of Chiefs over the weekend commended Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic party (NPP) for the political maturity he exhibited by conceding and accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court ruling.

The Nayiri, Na Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, President of the House, in a release issued in Tamale said Nana Akufo-Addo’s immediate acceptance of the SC verdict and calling President Mahama to congratulate him was a mark of statesmanship, which needed commendation.

Na Sheriga, who is the Paramount Chief of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, said prior to the SC verdict, both President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo pledged their commitment for peace and assured Ghanaians of accepting the verdict no matter where it went.

The statement said the manner in which Ghanaians accepted the verdict was an indication that the country was undeniably a peace-loving nation, which was a mark of growth, maturity and development in its democratic dispensation.

“I Nayiri, on behalf of the Northern Region House of Chiefs and on my own behalf congratulates Nana Akufo-Addo for not only accepting the verdict of the court, but also conceding defeat immediately and swayed the minds of his followers towards peace, which has been very good for Ghana and its democratic credentials”, it said.

“My congratulations also go to President John Mahama for being confirmed as the validly elected President of the country, who has been magnanimous with victory”, the statement added.

The statement expressed gratitude to all Ghanaians, church leaders, the National Chief Imam and the National Peace Council for the various roles played to ensure that the country remained peaceful during and after the Supreme Court verdict.
