Northern regional Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Police Service, Superintended N.O. Ofosu-Hene, has commended Tijaniya Brotherhood in the Tamale metropolis for leading a lifestyle worth emulating.
Supt. Ofosu, speaking at the 2nd annual ‘Maulid’ lectures organised by the Tijaniya Brotherhood, lauded the youth for exhibiting a sense of religious tolerance, understanding and being peace loving.
According to the police commander, the youth could have had their energies and time to engage in unpleasant youthful activities, but the brotherhood rather chosen to sensitise the public to emulate the life of Prophet Muhammad by leaving in harmony with others, respect, forgiveness and sharing with the vulnerable.
Supt. Ofosu advised other groupings to emulate the Tijaniya Brotherhood initiative, and also help maintain peaceful co-existence in the region.
The MTTD commander, however, lamented the rate at which deaths were being recorded, as a result of avoidable road accidents.
According to him, the public are not adhering to road safety precautions, and the MTTD’s measures to curb the rising deaths in the region.
Supt. Ofosu also used the occasion to advise the motoring public to always put on crush helmet, seatbelt before plying the roads.
The commander further urged the clergy and opinion leaders to take the lead in wearing crush helmets, which he believes would be emulated by the rest of the public.
He reiterated his outfit’s commitment in curbing the menace by arresting and prosecuting any person found violating the road safety order.
For his part, Editor-in-Chief of Bishara Radio in Tamale, Alhassan A. Ibrahim, urged Muslim clergy to positively use the media to propagate Islam, rather than preaching on religious sects and nailing each other during sermon.
According to him, Muslims have been tagged as terrorist and militants by some media, due to Muslims’ inability to use the media to tell the beautiful story about Islam.
Mr. Alhassan charged aspiring Imams to change the ill-perception about Islam.
The Maulid Lectures dubbed; “Emulating the life of the Prophet Muhammad: A tool for moral uplifting and religious co-existence” brought intellectuals and youth together to explore the life style of the prophet.
