Accra, Sept. 27, GNA – Professor Linus Abraham, Rector of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) on Tuesday said the Institute was realizing its dream of becoming a centre of excellence in film and television making in Africa.

He said the Institute had the ultimate aim of improving the level of professional work in filmmaking in Ghana, which it had imbibed and incorporated into a knowledge base of international best practices in film training throughout the world.

Prof. Abraham said this in Accra when he addressed students of the institute who are attending a 12-day workshop on feature film directing and camera for the third and final year students.

A team of professionals from the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne and the University of Television and Film, Munich under the sponsorship of the Goethe Institute is organizing the workshop.

Prof Abraham said the workshop was the fourth of its kind but the current one had taken a different dimension from others as it involved a visiting team of lecturers and as it had assumed more complexity regarding the training.

He said the workshops remained a permanent feature on NAFTI’s curriculum for students since the training by the German team was also geared at improving conditions at the Institute.

He advised students to work harder than before since they had an opportunity of benefiting from the German-NAFTI exchange programmes to improve their professional work.

Professor Robert Sobotta, Director of the Goethe Institute said the collaboration with NAFTI for improved film and television education had been sustained and expressed the hope that the collaboration would yield positive results.

Prof Axel Block from the University of Film and Television, Munich later presented some mobile editing equipment and two Panasonic Cameras as the first batch of presentation of 500 film classics to NAFTI for improved training.
