Winneba (C/R) Oct. 15, GNA-National Executive members of the National Graduate Association of Teachers (NAGRAT) on Friday met with a large number of students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to explain their strike action to them.
The Executive Members include Mr. Kwame Alorvie, National President, Mr. G.T. Dotsey, National Financial Secretary, Mr. Christian Poku, Ashanti Regional Vice President and Hiob Kofi Owusu, Central Regional Secretary of the Association.
Addressing them, Mr. Kwame Alorvie said as teacher-students who would be joining the Association in future, there was the need for them to know the reason for their strike action.
He told them that it was not the intention of the Association to embark on a sit down strike to create problems or hardship for students, parents and the government.
Mr. Alorvie therefore, urged the government to give what is due to members of the Association to enable them to resume duty. The National President said that their strike action was not under any political connotation or being influenced by any political party but said it was necessary for them to fight for the promise the government gave them in 2003.
He said NAGRAT is a none political entities as being rumoured in some quarters, or its executives have been bribed to make the government unpopular, "What we are asking for is our fair share of the national cake".
Mr. Alorvie said teachers in the country have sacrificed for far too long and urged the government and other stakeholders to take a second look at the plight of teachers.
