Nyinahin (Ash), Sept.6, GNA - A member of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has commended the government for its bold decision in creating more districts. Mr Boateng Mahamid said the creation of the new districts would bring government to the doorstep of the people.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency during the inauguration of the Atwima Mponua District at Nyinahin recently, Mr Mahamid said by this singular act, the NPP government had fulfilled the campaign promise it made in 2000 as enshrined in its manifesto.

He said, the creation of the new district in the view of NALAG, gives the chiefs and entire people in the Nyinahin area, the opportunity to determine their own destiny.

The NALAG member advised the staff of the new district and the assembly members to ensure that the sub-district structures operated properly, intensify revenue collection and encourage transparency in the activities of the assembly.

Mr Mahamid said NALAG, as an umbrella organisation of Local Government institutions, would continue to play its advocacy and lobbying roles to ensure effective and efficient local government system in the country.
